Superior quality cotton with a DWR finish (durable water repellent). This finish has excellent waterproofing properties, combined with a densely woven cotton base. This means the fabrics perform well and keep their natural cotton feel and appearance.

Dry waxing vs usual waxing

Waxed canvas is a cotton fabric treated with a blend of waxes—traditionally paraffin and/or beeswax—that are melted and impregnated into the fibers. The fabric is typically heated to around 60–80°C, allowing the wax to fully penetrate the yarn structure. This creates a highly water-resistant barrier but leaves a slightly oily surface, which can transfer residue and often requires a lining.

Dry waxed canvas, by contrast, uses a more advanced finishing process. Instead of heavy wax impregnation, a low-oil wax formulation or microcrystalline wax blend is applied in controlled, thinner layers, often followed by mechanical finishing (calendering) and curing. This binds the wax more evenly within the fabric, resulting in a matte, dry-to-the-touch surface. Because the wax is more stable and does not migrate, dry waxed canvas does not leak or transfer, and typically does not require a lining, while still maintaining water resistance.

Durch die Trockenwachsung ist die Verwendung ohne Futter möglich.

Trockenwachsung vs. herkömmliche Wachsbehandlung

Gewachste Baumwolle ist ein mit einer Wachsmischung – traditionell Paraffin und/oder Bienenwachs – behandeltes Gewebe. Die Wachse werden geschmolzen und in die Fasern eingearbeitet. Das Gewebe wird üblicherweise auf 60–80 °C erhitzt, damit das Wachs vollständig in die Garnstruktur eindringen kann. Dadurch entsteht eine stark wasserabweisende Barriere, die jedoch eine leicht ölige Oberfläche hinterlässt, die Rückstände hinterlassen kann und oft ein Futter erfordert.

Trockenwachsung hingegen verwendet ein fortschrittlicheres Veredelungsverfahren. Anstelle einer dicken Wachsimprägnierung wird eine ölarme Wachsformulierung oder eine mikrokristalline Wachsmischung in kontrollierten, dünneren Schichten aufgetragen, gefolgt von einer mechanischen Veredelung (Kalandern) und Aushärtung. Dadurch wird das Wachs gleichmäßiger im Gewebe gebunden, was zu einer matten, sich trocken anfühlenden Oberfläche führt. Da das Wachs stabiler ist und nicht wandert, ist trockenwachste Baumwolle dicht und färbt nicht ab. Sie benötigt in der Regel kein Futter und behält gleichzeitig ihre Wasserbeständigkeit.
